Fireplaces

Nothing adds more ambiance or a feeling of coziness like an authentic fireplace. Fireplaces in basements can be constructed in many different configurations and with many decorative elements to fulfill any decorative style. A fireplace is also great for quickly removing the chill from the air in a cool basement and the heat generated can help heat the rest of the house or provide a secondary heat source in case the primary heating furnace were to fail.

Fireplaces fall into four categories:
  1. A full masonry chimney that can burn either gas or wood.
  2. A pre-manufactured fireplace unit, that uses an insulated flue pipe or chimney, that
can burn either gas or wood.
  3. A direct vent fireplace which does not require a full chimney to the roof. These
  fireplaces only burn gas.
  4. A vent-less fireplace that requires no chimney at all. These fireplaces only burn gas.

There are also specialty fireplaces or heaters that include pellet or corn burning stoves as well as elastic units that imitate the look of fire.

The building codes related to fireplaces are intricate and very specific. Care must be taken to meet all of the building code requirements and manufacturers’ installation specifications. Alpha Basement Finishing has installed hundreds of fireplaces and can assist you throughout the design and installation process.
